Ebook About As a ministry worker, raising support can be a daunting task. It doesn't have to be intimidating though. It isn't about money or asking people to give. It is about looking to God to provide for you. He has given you a vision for ministry, and now you get to invite others into that vision. Your job is to pray and work hard to discover those whom the Lord has already prepared to invest in you and your ministry. God has done His work. Now it's time for you to do yours. A case in point: Nehemiah was very nervous about meeting with the wealthiest, most powerful man on the planet. He was asking King Artaxerxes to fund his Jerusalem restoration project. But when it came time to make his appeal, this lowly cupbearer first looked up to the Person who really provides resources. At the moment of truth, Nehemiah lifted his heart and made The God Ask. In Nehemiah 2:4 he describes the exchange: "Then the king said to me, 'What would you request?' So I prayed to the God of heaven." Instead of going into appointments fearing what your fellow man will say, you can have confidence that God is superintending the whole process. This book will help you embrace the fact that this is not a Man Ask. No. It is a God Ask!Book The God Ask: A Fresh, Biblical Approach to Personal Support Raising Review :
552 The book is inspiring and certainly helpful for those choosing to get into active support raising, but I have to say that the author's use of some of the bible passages feel a little forced. For example, it is true that Jesus's ministry was somewhat funded by devoted followers. But the bible doesn't give any specifics on how he or his disciples went about this. Were they aggressive about asking for support? Or did they just go about their ministry and people were moved to give without being asked? The author doesn't argue that they were aggressive; however, his contemporary examples throughout the book and main arguments suggest that aggressive asking is the proper way to raise support. I feel the placement of the Jesus example in the book is unfortunate. It should not have been placed after/in the midst of all those contemporary examples. It should have been placed somewhere in the beginning--for people who have issues about "receiving support" (which, to be fair, I think was the author's intention). Why do I suggest this? Simply because, in my experience, fewer missionaries have problems with "receiving support." A lot have with aggressive asking for support (p.s. I don't mean aggressive in a bad sense--just really active support raising). So, it would be better not to confuse the issue. Discuss biblical support for aggressive support raising separately from receiving support. It will then be easy to see that there is not as much biblical foundation for aggressive support raising. Those that are less aggressive or who receive their salary from institutions should not feel guilty. Even the Levites did not "ask." Their portion was God-instituted, and not just in the sense of God-through-people but God-through-law. I hope that makes sense.I like the author's other arguments, namely, that support raising can really help us involve others in the work for God's kingdom.
